ABOUT THE ROLE

The Leadership Training & Development Manager C&I is responsible for strengthening the capability, consistency, and performance of Sturgeon leaders through structured training, certification tracking, and targeted development programs. This role oversees key training initiatives including STS-C, GFLT, FLT, EEW, and FPM while ensuring all Foremen and General Foremen receive modern, relevant training aligned with current industry trends and standards.

The position partners closely with the Organizational Learning & Development (OL&D) team, Operations leadership, and the Sturgeon Training & Development Committee to design, modernize, and deliver high-impact training across Sturgeon COC C&I. Additionally, this role supports large-scale projects with customized on-site training regimens and guides strategic direction of training through a cross-functional training committee. While this role has an initial concentration on field leadership, it is not limited to that group and will encompass other Sturgeon leadership training & development needs as needed.

Sturgeon Electric's Commercial and Industrial (C&I)electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. We also offer design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and AutoCAD capabilities.

Essential Functions

  • Training Program Ownership:
    • Manage, track, and support the STS-C certification and recertification process for all field leaders
    • Lead the redesign and facilitation of GFLT and FLT training, ensuring alignment with industry practices
    • Oversee the EEW program, including scheduling, facilitation, and tracking
    • Maintain the Field Performance Management (FPM) system
    • Partner with OL&D to identify training needs and develop curriculum
    • Work with outside agencies, like NECA, to offer supplemental training as needed or requested
    • Execute the training and development strategy set by the Sturgeon Training & Development Committee
  • Project-Level Training (Projects with 8+ Foremen):
    • Develop project-specific training regimens for projects for large projects
    • Create and manage focused training schedules to support team growth
    • Deliver targeted training for leadership, safety, and operational excellence
  • Individual Leadership Development:
    • Identify and track individualized development plans for all General Foremen
    • Ensure each General Foreman receives one training per month
    • Training topics include leadership, safety modules, time management, people skills, quality control, and technical skills
  • Training Development & Facilitation:
    • Redesign existing training to ensure relevance with current industry trends
    • Create new training content, guides, and resources
    • Facilitate or coordinate monthly training sessions for all field leaders
    • Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback and performance indicators
  • Training Committee Participation:
    • Play a key role in and participate in the newly developed Sturgeon Training & Development Committee
    • Assist in the setting of overall training goals, guide training direction, identify gaps, and propose improvements
    • Facilitate committee meetings, and track action items related to the will of the committee
  • Reporting & Compliance:
    • Maintain accurate training records and performance metrics
    • Provide monthly and quarterly leadership reports
    • Ensure all Foremen and General Foremen complete required training
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company's Corporate Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of field construction or operations experience
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in the electrical trade
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of progressive experience in training, workforce development or organizational learning
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing a team of trainers

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Education/Adult Learning preferred; equivalent combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of field operations, safety requirements, and performance management
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with STS-C certification preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

WHAT WE OFFER

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary $110,000-$140,000 / year
    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
