Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated engineering professional to join our S8G Prototype Electrical Engineering team in West Milton, NY! The Prototype Electrical Engineering unit provides electrical field engineering support for the instrumentation and control systems, medium and low voltage distribution systems, and the various support systems in operation at the prototype. The Prototype Electrical Engineering unit develops and delivers the prototype with quality engineering products to support the maintenance and operational needs of the prototype. These products ensure the successful completion of planned maintenance shutdowns and provide technical solutions to restore the prototype to operation and the resumption of its mission.



In addition to performing engineering evaluations, analyses, and making engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks, the successful candidate for this position will:




  • Provide leadership as a recognized subject matter expect in prototype systems and on engineering teams.
  • Mentor new and experienced engineers, provide technical training, process improvement guidance, and support the unit through lessons learned and best practices.
  • Be responsible for planning and oversight of projects to ensure work is technically sound, of high quality and meets all program requirements.
  • Interface and integrate the efforts of all stakeholders and management to ensure the technical scope of the projects are met.
  • Prepare and deliver effective formal presentations and reviews in a variety of settings to all levels in the organization.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous Naval Nuclear Plant operations experience
  • Previous experience in design community
  • Familiarity with prototype maintenance, testing, and safety system design
  • Experience writing maintenance/repair procedures

Pay Range
$116,700.00 - $182,400.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
