Cybersecurity Intern (Cloud/SaaS)

Role Summary / Purpose

The Cybersecurity Intern will support Epicor's Cybersecurity teams in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of corporate and customer hosted environments.

This role is handson and designed for candidates interested in and seeking exposure to threat hunting, AIassisted security operations, cloud security engineering, secure development practices, and application security testing.

The intern will gain experience working with real production systems, modern security tooling, and SaaSscale defensive practices while contributing to detection, response, automation, vulnerability analysis, and secure software development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Cybersecurity Operations (SecOps)
  • Support daily monitoring, triage, and analysis of security alerts, leveraging SIEM, EDR, and AIassisted detection platforms.

  • Participate in threat hunting activities by analyzing log data, anomalies, cloud telemetry, and behavioral indicators to identify emerging threats.

  • Assist in initial investigation and support Tier1/Tier2 teams in diagnosing potential security events.

  • Learn and apply Epicor's incident response processes; contribute to evidence collection and documentation.

  • Use AIenhanced capabilities to speed up alert triage, pattern recognition, and threat intelligence correlation.

Cybersecurity Engineering
  • Support the engineering team in improving security control automation across cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, AWS).

  • Identify new solutions to increase and improve Epicor's security posture.

  • Participate in configuration reviews, baseline hardening, and compliance checks against internal standards.

  • Explore opportunities to build security automation using scripting or modern languages (Python, PowerShell, or Go).

Application Security
  • Assist in conducting secure code reviews, using SAST/DAST & SCA tooling and AIaugmented code analysis.

  • Support threat modeling discussions with developers.

  • Participate in dependency vulnerability tracking (SCA tools) and remediation planning.

  • Learn and apply modern AppSec practices for SaaS applications (input validation, authentication flows, secure APIs, OWASP Top 10).

Security Program & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to developing and updating security standards, playbooks, and internal documentation.

  • Help evaluate emerging security technologies, especially AIdriven defensive tools.

  • Participate in internal knowledgesharing, user awareness initiatives, and technical writeups.

Required Skills & Qualifications Education
  • Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field-or relevant alternative coursework (bootcamps, certificates, handson labs, etc.).

Technical Skills
  • Foundational experience with:

    • Operating systems (Windows, Linux)

    • Basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, proxies, VPNs)

    • Scripting or programming skills (Python preferred; PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or Go beneficial)

  • Interest or exposure to:

    • Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS; GCP optional)

    • Security tools (SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, code scanners)

    • Container security (Docker/Kubernetes)

    • Version control (Git/GitHub)

  • Optional but valuable:

    • Familiarity with secure coding principles

    • API security basics

    • Understanding of identity platforms (e.g., Entra ID/LDAP)

Preferred Certifications (Not Required)

To reflect modern entrylevel expectations, this section replaces legacy emphasis on midcareer certifications:

  • Preferred earlycareer certifications:

    • CompTIA Security+

    • ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC)

    • Google Cybersecurity Certificate

    • Microsoft SC900 / AZ900 / MS900

    • GIAC Foundational (if available)

  • Optional advanced certifications (beneficial but not expected for interns):

    • CEH, eJPT/eWPT, eCPPT, OSCP, GIAC GSEC [Role Summa...y (Intern) | Word]

Competencies & Behaviors
  • Strong analytical skills and curiosity-especially for identifying anomalies or suspicious activity.

  • Interest in adversarial thinking, reverseengineering, or red/blue team concepts.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across Security Ops, Engineering, IT, and Development teams.

  • High motivation to learn cloud security and AIenabled security technologies.

  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to document findings clearly.

Experience
  • Coursework, labs, personal projects, or handson experience from internships/bootcamps.

  • Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through:

    • Participation in CTFs, hackathons, or cybersecurity clubs

    • Selfhosted home labs

    • GitHub projects, coding exercises

    • Cloud certifications or handson learning platforms (TryHackMe, HackTheBox, Immersive Labs)
