Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager and in collaboration with the Clinical Director and Associate Director, the Ambulatory Care Administration Supervisor 2 will oversee the supervision of clerical and support staff in all Neurosurgery Ambulatory Clinics.

The Ambulatory Care Administration Supervisor 2 will assist in determining objectives, managing programs, and assist in the development of strategies and policies, and for managing the operational, human resource, administrative and business functions.

The Ambulatory Care Administration Supervisor 2 must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients and providers in outpatient settings. The Practice Supervisor oversees the refinement of the front office responsibilities and the handling of the new patient coordinator referral team, ensuring patients are accommodated with swift and easy access to our clinics. The Practice Supervisor will also oversee our support staff as well.

Supervises clinic operations, typically spanning multiple providers, clinics and / or practices. Subordinates include staff involved with professional operational functions. Oversight of administrative areas such as practice revenue management, billing systems and procedures, facilities and safety procedures, registration, new patient coordination, scheduling, medical records storage and maintenance, insurance authorizations. May also supervise patient support staff such as medical assistants, in coordination with the clinical leadership.

Occasional travel is required for meetings and site visits from the South Bay to Monterey.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $90,700 - $193,500 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience
  • 3+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills to effectively supervise staff and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with clinic / center administration
  • Strong knowledge of practice operations, patient-scheduling systems, medical and insurance terminology, applicable information systems, patient service standards, and regulatory requirement and best practices
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex administrative, clinical, and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals

Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center operations
