Job Overview

The Clinical Assistant (CA) assists patients and families by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs. The CA provides comfort, transportation, and vital sign monitoring. In addition, the CA supports and assists nursing personnel and other providers in diagnostic procedures and technical treatments and functions as a member of the healthcare team.

Children and adults with a variety of congenital and acquired cardiac conditions are referred to the Heart Institute for diagnostic, interventional or surgical procedures. Outpatients (OP) will arrive at the pre-procedure unit to be admitted for their scheduled procedure/surgery. Appropriate in-patients may come to the Cardiac Pre/Post Unit for staging prior to their scheduled procedure. Patients receiving anesthesia or managed sedation for their scheduled procedure will be observed for phase one recovery following the procedure when appropriate. Ambulatory patients will continue to be observed for phase two recovery until discharged to home from the unit. Other patients served by this area include cardiology patients requiring a sedated echocardiogram or other procedures including but not limited to: infusions, chest tube placements and wound VAC changes. A patient requiring an IV infusion for transplant rejection purposes (i.e.: ATG, albumin, IVIG or steroids) may be served in this area. Clinic patients who have been identified to be admitted for floor inpatient (IP) status may come directly to the unit from the OP Cardiology Clinic while waiting for an IP bed to be assigned to allow immediate cardiac monitoring and order implementation for the cardiac patient. Hematology/Oncology patients may also have dobutamine echo study in the Cardiac Pre/Post Unit as part of their medical evaluation. Patients come from a seven-state region; however, the main population is from Colorado
