Job Summary

The Manager, Automation, will direct and actively manage the team responsible for automation equipment/systems for day-to-day manufacturing operations. Responsible for managing the site engineering team that deploys, operates, maintains, and supports onsite process automation systems, equipment, and applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities, including team schedules, attendance, and staffing coverage.

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance management to enable career development for others.

  • Facilitate team meetings to communicate priorities and ensure active listening to respond to team concerns.

  • Lead site automation implementation, maintenance, and support for the manufacturing supply site.

  • Execute automation strategic plans and partner with internal engineers and external service providers/contractors.

  • Deliver high-quality, stable, and simple solutions while driving continuous improvement through team-driven KPIs.

  • Support the design, configuration, and maintenance of manufacturing computer systems, including process control systems and data historians.

  • Author, review, and approve SOPs to ensure cGMP integration and process efficiency.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) during internal and external audits and actively respond to observations.

  • Co-own the lifecycle management of automation and site assets to ensure reliability and prevent obsolescence.

  • Maintain a presence in the area of ownership and communicate across multiple operating shifts to ensure continuity of support.

  • Support site automation systems, including hardware/software design specification development, user / functional requirement development, integration, and validation in conjunction with IT Computer Systems Validation & QA Validation leads.

  • Drive compliance with FDA and international regulations (e.g., 21CFR Part 11) and manage Change Control, CAPA, and Deviations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading others in a regulated or cGMP environment

  • Extensive experience in an industrial automated facility

  • Strong communication and strategic skills

  • Significant experience evaluating automation systems from a compliance perspective specifically ensuring adherence to applicable standards (i.e. 21CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11)

  • Troubleshooting experience, both hardware and software, at a 24x7 manufacturing cGMP operation

Preferred Background

  • BS/MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline

  • Expertise with HMI/SCADA packages such as: Rockwell FactoryTalk View ME/SE

  • Expertise in OSI PI or other Historian systems.

  • Expertise with PLCs such as: Rockwell, Siemens.

  • Experience in plant start up, equipment commissioning and qualification.

Our target base pay hiring range for this position is $105,000.00 - $138,750.00 per year. Actual base pay is dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's geographical location, relevant experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
