Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrates SoundOff Signal's Core Values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technical professionals, providing clear guidance and direction.
  • Lead product design, analysis and development of mechanical components from design concept to manufacturing release.
  • Take accountability for the department's overall performance and results, aligning with company goals.
  • Develop and execute the mechanical engineering roadmap, ensuring it aligns with the company's objectives.
  • Exhibit thorough engineering analysis and project ownership, schedule development and validation plans.
  • Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics.
  • Accountable for planning, development and management of projects in compliance with all applicable guidelines.
  • Partner with internal teams as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch.
  • Foster innovation and excellence within the mechanical engineering department, driving continuous improvement.
  • Support the operational business development effort with current and potential customers, and development of processes & protocols through a structured new product launch that is focused on velocity to market and manufacturing repeatability.
  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to support the pursuit of new customers and opportunities.
  • Provide technical expertise and solutions to enhance our offerings and meet customer needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop team members through the regular performance appraisal process by identifying performance, education, training requirements and opportunities ensuring that team members continue to grow.
  • Serve as a technical leader in the review of group product engineering activities.
  • Direct the analysis of competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance and packaging.
  • Contact and when necessary, visit customers and suppliers to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
  • Able to perform job consistently and without excessive absenteeism or tardiness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (preferred Electrical or Mechanical). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years Engineering experience.
  • 5+ years Engineering management experience.
  • Proven track record leading mechanical engineers across all stages of the product development lifecycle in a fast paced environment.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design concepts and the manufacture of products utilizing high volume, automated manufacturing processes as well as manual assembly.
  • Experience establishing strategic direction for engineering department.
  • Proven experience in leadership and management roles, with a focus on accountability and results.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills: identifying issues, root cause analysis, brainstorming solutions, implementation and validation
  • Effective communication with leadership, other departments, customers, and suppliers.
  • Computer skills - Windows Office Suite
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (Lean training a plus)
  • Technical training, i.e., SAE lighting requirements, SAE vehicle specifications, properties of plastics, and material compatibility, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
  • Tool design, metal fabrication, electronic assembly, PCBA design and manufacturing.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing many projects simultaneously.
  • Team player.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift up to 35lbs.
  • Able to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, rotate and/or reach throughout an entire shift.
  • Must be able to handle and work with small parts.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly office environment, occasional light manufacturing environment
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Low noise level in a temperature-controlled setting
  • Some level of domestic and/or international travel may be required
  • May work remotely
  • Mostly normal business hours with occasional need to flex hours
