Position Summary

The Hammer Museum seeks a Technical Director(TD) to lead all aspects of the technical operations of the Billy Wilder Theater and the delivery of AV services throughout the Museum. The TD will develop and implement operating procedures; liaise with program participants; coordinate work with product and service vendors; and hire, train and manage a large team of AV Technicians required for successful operations. The TD ensures AV services are delivered in a manner consistent with Museum policies and standards. The TD will also ensure safe working procedures and address or escalate any safety issues as they arise. Additionally, the Technical Director will manage the AV operations for all Public Programs, special events, and internal and external meetings, including but not limited to identifying needs and coordinating the delivery of AV services; arranging video taping or special equipment and special staffing needs; ensuring the availability and functionality of equipment; and providing expertise and leadership to staff assisting with the production.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years Experience in audiovisual services, including leadership or supervisory responsibility for enterprise and theatrical AV systems, staff coordination, and operational delivery (Required) And
  • Worked in complex institutional, cultural, educational, or enterprise environments (Required) And
  • Proficiency in audio, video, projection, livestream, recording, and networked AV systems operation and maintenance (Required) And
  • Experience working with theatrical, studio, exhibition, lighting, and outdoor presentation AV environments, applied within a broader enterprise or institutional AV context (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing AV teams of comparable size and complexity, including full-time staff and a substantial rotating or part-time workforce ; including experience developing policies and procedures for reliable, scalable AV services (Required)
  • Technical skills to operate, support, and train staff on AV equipment and systems, including networked and software-defined AV technologies (Required)
  • Experience with audio system testing, setup, tuning, and live and recorded sound reinforcement (Required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of departments, clients, vendors, consultants, and external partners (Required)
  • Adaptability to a dynamic, technically demanding environment supporting both enterprise and theatrical AV services (Required)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills (Required)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality and reliability (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and reporting (Required)
  • Experience with policy development, documentation, and implementation (Required)
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, guidelines, and standards for safe operation of technical and electrical equipment (Required)
  • Proficiency with Mac and Windows operating systems; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.); presentation tools (PowerPoint, Keynote); databases or asset management systems; and software for control and monitoring of AV equipment (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience/training (Required)
