As a UMKC employee within the MTS HVAC position, you'll belong to an engaged, diverse community and will get to interact and engage with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds daily. You will have an assorted amount of work as an HVAC technician, and you will have the opportunity to broaden your skillsets with the Campus Facilities Department as you will work side by side with other skilled trades such as electrical and plumbing when needed. Provide skilled HVAC maintenance and repair for buildings, including permanent and moveable equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair and maintain HVAC systems, including hot water and steam heating systems and chilled water-cooling systems. Utilize testing equipment to check controls and to balance air flow. Install and change bearings, shafts, belts, and filters. Perform sheet-metal work and duct and diffuser installation. Operate and maintain centrifugal chillers and steam absorption chillers.
  • Perform maintenance/repair on pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems and prepare documentation required to make our preventive maintenance program effective.
  • Assist with any HVAC repairs including floods due to broken equipment as needed
  • Locate parts and prepare requests for purchase of parts and equipment; provide input as to recommended equipment purchases for consistency in maintenance and repair.
  • Clean area upon completion; return materials and equipment and restore area to original state.
  • Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools and equipment.
  • Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift

  • 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday
  • Occasional nights and weekends may be required, as needed
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent; five years' actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the trade.
  • Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials used for general building maintenance.
  • Manual dexterity and physical coordination.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $28.00 to $33.00 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
