Aquatics - *Multiple Positions Available*

The City of Kirkland is now hiring for the Peter Kirk Pool and Kirkland's three public swimming beaches for the upcoming summer season. We are seeking enthusiastic, responsible individuals to join our aquatics team as lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim team coaches. These positions offer a great opportunity to gain valuable job skills, promote water safety, and make a positive impact in your community while working in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you're looking for a first job, leadership experience, or a chance to work outdoors this summer, there's an aquatics role for you.

Lifeguard (15+ years)
The City of Kirkland is seeking Lifeguards to work at the Peter Kirk Pool and at Houghton, Waverly, and Juanita Beaches for the summer season. First-year lifeguards will be assigned to the pool, while returning lifeguards may be eligible to work at our swimming beaches. A current lifeguard certification is required, with limited opportunities available for city-sponsored certification class in May. Join our aquatics team this summer and help keep our community safe while enjoying a rewarding and active job.

Pay Rate: $20.10 - $24.00

Swim Instructor (15+ years)
Swim lessons are offered Monday through Thursday in both the morning and evening as well as Friday and Saturday morning classes at the Peter Kirk Pool. The Swim Instructor position is an excellent opportunity for a first job, with paid on-the-job training provided. Instructors gain valuable teaching and water safety skills while helping promote water safety awareness within the community.

Pay Rate: 20.10 - $24.00

Head Swim Team Coach (18+ years)
The Peter Kirk Pool is home to a seasonal recreational swim team, and we are looking for a motivated Head Coach to lead the program. The Head Coach is responsible for directing practices, coordinating swim meets, and guiding the overall success of the team, with support from Assistant Coaches and aquatics staff. Practices take place Monday through Thursday in the early morning, with swim meets occurring on weekends throughout the summer.
Pay Rate: $23.64 - $28.23

Assistant Swim Team Coach (16+ years)
The Peter Kirk Pool's recreational swim team is looking for Assistant Coaches to join the coaching staff for the season. In this role, Assistant Coaches support the Head Coach by helping direct daily practices, organizing swim meets and competitions, assisting with customer service, and completing administrative duties as needed. Practices take place Monday through Thursday in the early morning, with swim meets occurring on weekends throughout the summer.

Pay Rate: $21.28 - $25.40


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (all positions)

  • Must be able to pass the Aquatics Skill Checks.
  • Must be able to obtain all certifications needed for your position.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act

Additional Minimum Qualifications per position:

  • Pool Lifeguards: Pool lifeguards must be at least 15 years of age. Lifeguards must possess or be able to obtain their American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Must be able to pass the Aquatics Skill Checks.
  • Beach Lifeguards: Beach Lifeguards must be at least 16 years of age. Beach lifeguards must have previous experience lifeguarding and will be required to pass the American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification offered by the city in addition to their base American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Must be able to pass the Aquatics Skill Checks for pools and beaches.
  • Swim Instructors: Successful completion of the Peter Kirk Learn to Swim Instructor Training. Minimum 16 years of age. Must possess or be able to obtain their First Aid, CPR and AED certifications before June 1.
  • Head Swim Team Coaches: Two seasons of coaching and/or 3+ seasons swim team experience. Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Must possess or be able to obtain their First Aid, CPR and AED certifications before June 1.
  • Assistant Swim Team Coaches: Minimum two seasons of swim team experience and minimum 16 years of age. Must possess current First Aid, CPR and AED certifications before June 1.

Other

Hours of Work
Employee works a flexible schedule which includes early morning, daytime, evening hours, and weekends June-September. Work schedule and needs may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather days.

Special Note
