General Summary

The Rubber Molding Process Technician is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining rubber molding processes to ensure consistent product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. This role provides technical leadership for injection molding operations and supports new product launches, continuous improvement initiatives, and production troubleshooting. Adhere to safety, health, and environmental guidelines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Process Development & Optimization

  • Develop, validate, and maintain rubber molding processes for molding.
  • Establish processing parameters including temperatures, pressures, cycle times, and cure conditions.
  • Lead process trials and scale-up activities from laboratory to full production.
  • Optimize processes to improve yield, cycle time, and process capability (Cp/Cpk).
  • Experience with DOE, SPC, Cp/Cpk, and statistical problem solving


Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure molding processes meet internal quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as required.
  • Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control plans and customer validation activities.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems


Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for defects such as:


    • Short shots, knit lines, blisters, voids, scorch, under/over-cure


  • Proven ability to reduce scrap, cycle time, and process variation


Equipment & Tooling

  • Support mold design reviews including gating, venting, and parting line considerations.
  • Troubleshoot tooling- and equipment-related process variation.
  • Assist with equipment commissioning, process qualification, and preventative maintenance strategies.


Documentation & Training

  • Develop and maintain process documentation including work instructions, molding protocols, and control plans.
  • Train operators and technicians on standard processes and best practices.
  • Support process standardization initiatives across manufacturing operations.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Quality, R&D, Tooling, Supply Chain, and Production teams.
  • Provide technical input for quoting, cost reduction, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support customer technical discussions and issue resolution.

Education:

Successful completion of high school highly preferred; additional training or certification as required for the area worked.
