The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 70 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Pediatric Inpatient Oncology provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to pediatric oncology patients in the inpatient setting as a member of the interdisciplinary care team. Responsibilities include clinical review and verification of chemotherapy and supportive care regimens, participation in daily rounds, medication reconciliation at transitions of care, therapeutic drug monitoring, and identification and management of medication-related problems. The Specialist monitors for treatment-related toxicities and supports safe use of high-risk medications.

The role also includes oncology formulary management activities, including evaluation of new medications, maintenance of protocols and order sets, utilization review, and participation in Pharmacy & Therapeutics initiatives.

Additional responsibilities include coordination of complex treatment plans, participation in quality improvement and medication safety initiatives, and education of pharmacy students and residents.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm. D. degree, or B.S. and 1 year of experience required
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience is required, specialty residency in Pediatrics is preferred
  • Requires current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland
  • Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner's practice setting by Division Director is required within 2 years of start date
  • Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days upon hire unless exempted by Division Director as beyond the scope of practice
  • BLS certification within 1 year of hire is required


Salary Range: Minimum $52.29/hour - Maximum 97.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
