OCIP Safety Director

This is an on-site role - located in Queens close to the Citi Field complex.

What the day will look like

The Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP), Safety Director (OSD) is a senior, on-site leadership role responsible for providing strategic oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of the OCIP Safety Program on a large, multi-year mega project.

The OSD acts as the Owner's eyes and ears in the field for all safety and risk related issues, ensuring that the written safety program aligns with the overall construction program and contractually mandated requirements.

This role requires a professional who combines deep field safety leadership with strong understanding of insurance, claims, and New York-specific regulatory requirements, and who can effectively influence a large and diverse project team.

Essential Functions Summary:
  • Interface routinely with the Owner, OCIP broker, carrier(s), and claims team to:
  • Support early reporting and investigation of incidents and claims
  • Track injury/claim trends and recommend corrective actions
  • Validate that contractual safety and reporting obligations are being met
  • Review of Contractors' Environmental, Health and Safety Plan (EHASP)
  • Training - onsite training sessions for contractor/subcontractor safety and contractor/subcontractor management
  • Ongoing Monitoring and Enforcement
  • Onsite Medical - Assist in establish and management of medical facilities.
  • Preparation of Reports and Presentations to include audit and maintenance of electronic records
  • Participation in selected Pre-Plan Meetings prior to start of work as outlined in the contractual requirements.

Education and/or Experience-

  • Minimum 10 years of building safety construction experience with at least 3 years in supervisory capacity managing individuals.
  • OCIP/CCIP and major infrastructure/mega project experience strongly preferred
  • Must be experienced in understanding and interpreting NYC DOB, Chapter 33 Construction Codes, relevant New York Labor Law provisions, as well as OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety expectations, procedures, and corrective actions to a diverse workforce, including contractors, subcontractors, and site management.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical safety standards, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) codes, and OSHA regulations.
  • Capable of preparing clear, concise reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, project owners, and senior management.
  • Must be able to effectively present safety information, conduct training sessions, and lead safety meetings with personnel at all levels.
  • Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or concerns from workers, supervisors, and regulatory officials.

College Degree (preference site safety and health) Plus, two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety expectations, procedures, and corrective actions to a diverse workforce, including contractors, subcontractors, and site management. Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical safety standards, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) codes, and OSHA regulations. Must be able to effectively present safety information, conduct training sessions, and lead safety meetings with personnel at all levels. Ability to respond professionally to inquiries or concerns from workers, supervisors, and regulatory officials.

Computer Skills-To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) preferred.
  • Minimum OSHA 30 hr. construction training certificate and be OSHA 500 certified.
  • NYC 40 Hour Site Safety Manager course preferred.
  • NYC Site Safety Manager accreditation is a plus but not a requirement.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $60,000 - $80,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
