The School of Public Health at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Remote) Data Analytics Specialist with the Prevention Research Center. About the Opportunity The Data Analytics Specialist will provide critical data management and support within the WV Prevention Research Center for the Integrated Community Engagement (ICE) Collaborative Program and other PRC projects. The primary project involved is the five-year NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded R01, "Shifting the Landscape in Primary Substance Use Prevention for Rural America: The Integrated Community Engagement Collaborative Cluster Trial" involving schools and communities in 36 WV counties (sites). In addition to the R01, the WVPRC has county level agreements within other WV and Kentucky counties, partnering with the Center for ICE implementation. The whole of this body of work makes up the ICE Collaborative. This position will predominantly provide database development and data visualization expertise to the team by supporting and contributing to data collection, database management, coding and analyzing data, report writing, data visualization, and presentations of data to community members and state partners. The Data Analytics Specialist will produce critical data infrastructure development to create and disseminate individual, visually appealing reports for over 100 partners, at the school, county, and state level. In addition, the data manager will provide technical assistance for the PRC, communities, and other partners. - Monitor data collection and data collection protocols.
- Design, develop, and maintain VISUALLY APPEALING tailored dashboards using Tableau/Power BI or other data visualization software for real-time performance monitoring, report generation for multiple levels of audiences from large datasets.
- Streamline reporting processes, increase efficiency in data retrieval and presentation accuracy. This includes automating and/or writing code to translate data into understandable and visually appealing reports in real time.
- Conduct system analysis and implementation to maintain and improve computer systems to generate lengthy reports in an efficient and timely manner.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for centralized access to prior and future reporting initiatives and process information for internal team members.
- Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data.
- Manages multiple large project databases of qualitative and quantitative data.
- Provide technical assistance to PRC, community, and state partners for dashboards and data reports.
- Create and generate annual reports for schools, counties, community and state partners, including written reports and presentations.
- Regularly schedules, organizes, and reports on status of data management activities to project team.
- Writes and edits appropriate reports and other deliverables, including presentations, for a variety of stakeholders such state, federal and community audiences.
- Collaborate with state and community partners to implement data-driven strategies and integrate evaluation findings into continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Provides mentorship to team members and graduate students, fostering professional growth and building organizational capacity.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration, Data Analytics and Design, Data Visualization, Software Engineering or a related discipline. Masters' degree or higher preferred. - A minimum of two (2) years of experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, data analysis and data visualization including application of statistical methodology.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

- Knowledge of research methodology in a community setting.
- Knowledge of program development and management.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to plan and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, telephone, written, face-to-face) and ability to perform in a professional manner in a variety of settings and with individuals of various backgrounds and skill levels.
- Ability to manage multiple project activities with an appropriate degree of attention to detail.
- Ability to see the interconnectedness among multiple aspects of a project.
- Effective public speaking skills.
- Skilled in the proficient use of computer software including the use of spreadsheet, word processing, video-conferencing software, web-based survey and presentation programs, and file management. Specific skills in data visualization software required (such as Tableau, Microsoft BI, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Python/ Python 3, SAS, Tableau, Oracle, SharePoint, REDCap, Java C++ etc.) are preferred.
- Preferable proficiency in the following to create county, state, regional maps: a.Sage X3, ArcGIS Pro
- Ability to create and generate automated report
- Incorporate geospatial data into GIS dashboards, enabling users to visualize trends on county, state, regional, or national scale.
- Daily use of ArcGIS Pro, Esri dashboards, public data sources to produce maps, visuals, tables, etc. for ongoing reporting initiatives and process documentation.
- Ability to present findings graphically including tables, charts, and interactive data dashboards.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse levels of individuals, such as administration, faculty, staff, office personnel, community leaders and partners, funding agency representatives and vendors.
- Ability to work independently with unstructured supervision and in flexible environments including using video-conferencing software.
- Ability to problem-solve, to reconcile differences, to resolve last minute crises in a successful manner.
- Ability to organize information, to reach conclusions, and to compose reports.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to travel independently for state project functions.
- Ability to communicate in English using proper grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.
- Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
