The Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Project Manager. About the Opportunity The Project Manager for the Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) center provides leadership, coordination, and strategic project management. This role oversees complex, multi stakeholder initiatives spanning academic programs, clinical partners, and a large integrated healthcare system. The Project Manager ensures high quality execution of simulation initiatives, drives continuous improvement, and contributes to alignment between academic simulation operations and system wide clinical training priorities. The position requires independent decision making, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage cross functional teams in a fast paced educational and healthcare environment. Check out retirement health insurance benefits, retirement income, and FAQ's. * Wellness programs What You'll Do Project Management and Strategic Leadership * Develop, execute, and manage project plans, charters, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations. * Lead large, multi departmental projects involving academic units, clinical partners, and external vendors. * Oversee project tracking and develop dashboards, progress reports, and Key performance indicators. * Identify risks, issues, and barriers; develop mitigation plans and escalate concerns appropriately. * Contribute to long term strategic planning for simulation education growth and healthcare system integration. * Tracks and reports on project milestones and provide status to the Director. Healthcare System Integration & Partnership Coordination * Serve as liaison between the academic simulation program and the healthcare system's clinical education, quality, safety, and workforce development departments. * Coordinate system wide initiatives such as onboarding, competency assessments, interprofessional education, clinical readiness events, and skills verification supported by simulation. * Support alignment of academic simulation initiatives with healthcare system workforce and training strategies. * Participate in planning and implementing shared service models and integrated training workflows. Operational and Programmatic Support * Oversee financial management by proposing and preparing annual budget, managing, and monitoring expenditures. * Provides direct supervision and training to administrative support staff, students, graduate assistants, and temporary employees serving in an administrative role. * Manages the administrative and operational functions within the STEPS Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) center. * Tracks and reports on project milestones and provides status to the Director. * Evaluate and provide recommendations on process improvement to increase efficient and effectiveness within STEPS processes and projects. * Develop, recommend, and improve policies, procedures, and strategies to streamline workflow of STEPS. * Participates on committees, special projects and contributes in any other capacity as assigned. * Coordinate the design, development, and implementation of materials to support programs in STEPS. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication * Lead/participate in meetings, work groups, and collaborative sessions with faculty, clinicians, administrators, and technical teams. * Prepare formal reports, presentations, and communications for internal and external stakeholders. * Maintain strong, transparent, and proactive communication channels across all project participants. Financial Administration & Resource Management * Manages operational budget and all accounts in STEPs, including grant projects, state accounts and external budgets, and implementation and expenditures and reconciling expenses for the department. * Track project-related budget items, expenses, and financial projections. * Assist in grant development, purchasing, contracts, and procurement related to simulation and system integration initiatives. * Contribute to long term resource forecasting and capital planning. Quality, Compliance & Evaluation * Support accreditation preparation, compliance monitoring, and evaluation activities for academic and clinical simulation programs. * Contribute to continuous quality improvement processes, data collection, and evaluation of simulation effectiveness. * Support research and scholarly activities related to simulation and academic health system partnerships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, education, health sciences, business administration, or related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of project coordination or project management experience in healthcare, academic health sciences, education, or related settings. Progressive office experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi stakeholder projects.
- Excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), CAPM, or equivalent certification.
- Experience working within a healthcare system or academic medical center.
- Experience with simulation operations, health professions education, competency assessment, or clinical training environments.
- Training in Lean, Six Sigma, or quality improvement methods.
- Familiarity with simulation platforms, digital learning tools, or LMS systems.
