Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation's skies safe and connected.

We're looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world's most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won't just support the mission - you'll define it.

Help shape the future of U.S. airspace safety and efficiency. We are seeking a highly skilled Network TELCO Engineer to design, implement, and support global terrestrial telecommunications networks in support of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs. This role is responsible for ensuring highly available, resilient, and secure network architectures that support safety-critical aviation operations across the National Airspace System (NAS). The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in carrier-grade networking, layered and segregated safety architectures, and modern transport technologies such as MPLS, SD-WAN, and wireless/5G. This position plays a key role in maintaining operational continuity, redundancy, and performance across geographically distributed FAA environments.

In this position, you will:

Design and support global terrestrial telecommunications networks supporting FAA operational systems.

  • Engineer layered, redundant, and segregated network architectures to meet aviation safety and availability requirements.

  • Implement and maintain MPLS-based WAN environments for mission-critical connectivity.

  • Design, deploy, and optimize SD-WAN solutions to improve resiliency, performance, and traffic prioritization.

  • Support wireless and 5G network architectures, including integration with terrestrial and WAN infrastructures.

  • Ensure network designs align with safety, segregation, and fault isolation principles.

  • Coordinate with telecommunications carriers and service providers on circuit provisioning, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

  • Perform network performance monitoring, capacity planning, and fault analysis.

  • Support site surveys, circuit turn-ups, testing, and acceptance activities.

  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, design documentation, and configuration baselines.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure network segmentation and compliance with FAA and federal standards.

  • Support modernization initiatives involving legacy-to-IP network transitions.

Why This Role Matters

FAA operations depend on resilient telecommunications networks that must remain operational at all times. As a Network TELCO Engineer, your work ensures that air traffic systems, surveillance platforms, and operational facilities remain connected through fault-tolerant, segregated, and redundant network designs. Your expertise directly supports aviation safety, system resiliency, and the FAA's long-term modernization strategy-ensuring communications never become a single point of failure.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years' experience or Masters degree and 6 years' experience or Associate's degree and 10 years' years' experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 12 years' experience.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with MPLS networks, routing, and traffic engineering.
  • Experience designing and supporting SD-WAN architectures in large, distributed environments.
  • Proven experience with global terrestrial network design and operations.
  • Experience with wireless and emerging 5G network technologies.
  • Experience supporting carrier-grade or enterprise telecommunications networks.
  • Knowledge of network Layered, redundant and segregated architecture (safety).
  • Experience supporting high-availability and safety-critical networks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting FAA, aviation or transportation safety-critical infrastructures.
  • Degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent carrier-grade networking credentials.
  • Familiarity with QoS, traffic prioritization, and latency-sensitive communications.
  • Ability to coordinate with telecom carriers, vendors, and field technicians.
  • Understanding of IP addressing strategies, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and WAN optimization.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and secure network segmentation strategies.
  • Experience supporting network modernization or large-scale infrastructure transitions.
