The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean, Student Affairs (High School and Non-Degree Programs) will plan and lead the execution of all co-curricular programming and residential life responsibilities for High School and Non-Degree Programs. In addition, this individual will work in collaboration with various teams to develop new program offerings, streamline and improve student support services, and communicate with students and their parents.

The Assistant Dean will establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with SPS team leads and various stakeholders to ensure that Student Affairs in the High School and Visiting Programs align with school-wide goals.

The Assistant Dean will provide a leadership presence across divisional functions in the absence of, and as assigned by, the Associate Dean or Senior Associate Dean. The Assistant Dean also builds coalitions and establishes productive working relationships among stakeholders, both internally and externally. The Executive Director also collaborates and partners with other leaders to ensure the delivery of best-in-class programs and services across High School and Visiting Programs and the unit.

Responsibilities



  • Serve as the primary conduct officer for over 6000 students participating in High School and Visiting Programs and adjudicating matters related to academic and behavioral violations. Manage all non-degree and high-school disciplinary issues connected with student life as they arise, assuming the authority to expel students for stated infractions.
  • Serve as part of a year-round rotating on-call schedule to respond to critical crisis situations.
  • Engage with University Public Safety and responsible for upholding emergency protocols for students
  • Provide oversight and coordination of student affairs policies, procedures, and emergency protocol involving students and advises staff on appropriate actions to ensure student safety and compliance with University policies.
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of all high school and non-degree co-curricular offerings which includes community building, college preparedness, academic skill development, and career strategies
  • Oversee and manage program budgets in excess of $4 million
  • Directs and manages the Internship in Building Community Program (IBC) which includes the on-boarding, training and supervision of approximately 150 student employees
  • Partner with the Dean's office, SPS Human Resources, Protection of Minors, the Office of General Counsel and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, to prevent and respond to events relevant to protocols regarding the Protection of Minors and Gender-Based Misconduct, including staff training and student orientation activities
  • Serves as the lead for all high school and non-degree program offerings as it relates to student safety, security, and emergency response; this includes building terms and contractual agreements with University Residence Halls, University Dining Halls, University Events Management, University Physical Fitness Center, CUIT, University Health Services, and others
  • Organize and/or lead population-specific Student Orientation at the start of each session
  • Oversee the creation of pipelines that give access to first generation and/or underrepresented populations through the development of strategic enrollment initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with leaders across the institution to evaluate potential market opportunities and develop, implement, and assess innovative pre-college & non-degree opportunities
  • Serve as the primary liaison to parents and students on all topics regarding student safety, student life, and general program information.
  • Serve as the liaison to Marketing and Web teams to ensure timely updates to advertising and external facing platforms
  • Work in collaboration with Alumni Affairs and Development Officers on alumni engagement and development strategies
  • May be responsible for supervising the work of one (1) or more employees
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned or requested


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree is usually required or strongly desirable
  • 7 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience in a supervisory role including the training and development of staff is strongly preferred
  • Experience working with pre-college summer programs preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Experience at a major research University in higher education administration and/or student affairs preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential
  • Exceptional attention to detail and an ability to perform non-routine work, to work with changing priorities, to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work independently as required
  • Evening and weekend work required, particularly during the summer
