Overview

TRC Companies (TRC), a nationally recognized consultancy, is seeking a Project Manager to serve as a Trade Ally Manager and Direct Install Coordinator for large-scale, low-income multifamily energy efficiency and decarbonization programs in California.

TRC is looking for a motivated and collaborative professional with demonstrated success supporting project delivery and operations, strong communication skills, and sound business judgment. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, stakeholder-facing environment and is passionate about advancing equitable access to energy efficiency and electrification solutions.

The Contractor Lead will support the Program Manager in the effective execution of program activities. Key responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of direct install program pathways, building and maintaining relationships with contractors, trade allies, and property owners/developers, and supporting the rapid deployment of program services. The role also requires close internal coordination with technical and operations teams to support property assessments, on-site inspections, construction coordination, and development of technical reports. The Contractor Lead will serve as a primary program liaison for external stakeholders while ensuring program activities align with contract requirements, policies, and performance goals.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support implementation of large-scale utility energy efficiency programs, including delivery of incentive funding to customers throughout California.
  • Assist program staff responsible for customer intake, energy audits, technical assistance, scope of work development, and pipeline management.
  • Support implementation partner relationships, including coordination, facilitation, and agenda development for partner and contractor meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness and support implementation of approved solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver internal and external presentations for customers, contractors, trade allies, and other program stakeholders.
  • Oversee and continuously improve database and CRM management, including project workflow tracking, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and program tools and resources to support service delivery and contract compliance.
  • Support the program management team with program reporting, tracking progress toward goals.
  • Play a key role in supporting project close-outs and the distribution of large-scale incentive payments (e.g., $100,000+) to multifamily property owners and contractors.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, outreach, and technical teams to enhance cross-functional coordination and program alignment.
  • Maintain strong proficiency in program requirements in order to effectively consult with current and prospective customers regarding program participation.
  • Provide professional, responsive customer support related to program requirements, technical assistance, issue resolution, and timely project status updates.
  • Ensure data accuracy and quality across program databases, reports, and deliverables.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of work quality, communication, and documentation.
  • Coordinate regularly with program team members across engineering, outreach, operations, and management functions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree and at least seven years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of relevant professional experience.

Leadership and Communication

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build/maintain relationships with partners, customers, and staff
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team and customers
  • Ability to coordinate, schedule and conduct team meetings professionally and efficiently

Project Operations and Management

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and attention to detail
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to monitor progress to goal effectively
  • Experience in program intake, pipeline management, customer relationship management (CRM) databases.

Technical competency:

  • Technical knowledge of/aptitude to learn technical industry concepts including lighting, mechanical, utility systems, building envelope, and energy distribution required.
  • Experience conducting building assessments and familiarity assessing multifamily properties
  • Building science certification, a plus
  • Familiarity with project design and construction processes. Experience with cost estimating, purchasing and closeout is a plus.
  • Experience with customer programs or service. Experience with utility or energy efficiency programs is a plus.
  • Affordable housing, low-income/disadvantaged community, and/or demand response deployment experience is a plus.

Interpersonal skills:

  • Self-driven and a team player with proven critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    Strong teamwork skills that include highly effective communication in-person, email, and over the phone.
    Strong written communication in English. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
    Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team and customers.

Other:

  • Eligible to work in the United States.
    Valid driver's license in the State of California (must be obtained prior to employment) and available access to a vehicle.
    Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within California.
    Certification or membership related to the building or energy industry is a plus.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
