Job Responsibilities:

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse position provides specialized care for participants in CBMHP with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and/or behavioral problems. Nurses assess participants, administer medications, and implement therapeutic interventions to promote emotional stability and functional improvement. They also educate participants and their families, and work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. To be successful in this position requires patience, active time management skills, and the ability to maintain strong boundaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Facilitate medication reconciliation post participant discharge from hospitals or state institutions for psychiatrists and pharmacy to renew or update status
  • Conduct Clozaril testing utilizing the Athelas Testing System
  • Maintain medical records via internal and external databases
  • Manage participant appointment scheduling for psychiatrists and APNP
  • Maintain medical facilities and equipment in accordance with State and Federal guidelines
  • Order participant lab testing within internal and external databases
  • Provide initial and on-going health assessments for participants
  • Arrange for or provide follow-up medical care for participants as needed
  • Ensure that there are written orders on file and updated for any prescription medications
  • Administer long acting injectable medication in the office
  • Educate participants about medications, side effects, precautions, and contraindications
  • Notify case manager, supervisor, and APNP/psychiatrists of any psychiatric symptoms or behavior changes that may require intervention
  • Serve as liaison with other collaborative medical professionals when necessary
  • Conduct blood pressures, weights, and any other medical treatments as needed
  • First shift work (8am-4pm), no weekends or holidays
  • Conduct occasional home visits to give injections or evaluate participant medical issues
  • Attend and participate in team staffings/in-services
  • Other job-related duties that may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position

Job Qualifications:

Required Qualifications


  • Two, three, or four-year degree from an accredited Nursing School
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse
  • 1-2 years psychiatric nursing experience preferred
  • No convictions or license revocations that would fail a caregiver background check
  • Valid driver's license, automobile and sufficient insurance to meet agency requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Good clinical skills, especially related to mental health, medical issues, and substance use disorders
  • Knowledge of DSM V, psychotropic medications, and their side effects
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a positive manner with a diverse population of staff and participants
  • Ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations, including de-escalation
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills while representing the agency both internally and externally
  • Ability to manage change, think critically, and be solution-oriented when dealing with situations as they arise in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and computer/typing skills
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask to meet various deadlines
  • Commitment to the RN role and the participants we serve
  • Ability to set professional boundaries with ethics and integrity
  • Work as a team member who participates productively while also managing independent duties and responsibilities
  • Sense of humor

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position is based in an office setting with minimal driving in the community for home visits (injections/medical assessments) with participants; must be able to go up and down stairs and lift/carry 20 pounds to potentially assist with participants' medical or mobility issues; mobility within the office is needed, but some office work while assessing participants and typing on a computer. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed both in a busy treatment environment, and sometimes in the community where participants' symptomatology may be evident; work is done sitting at a desk or moving around the office; hours average up to 20 hours/week.
