Roadway Design Consultant

Join HANSON, where innovation and sustainability drive our commitment to client success and community impact. We are seeking a motivated, experienced Roadway Design Consultant to work in our Indianapolis, Indiana, office and help deliver advanced solutions for transportation and roadway infrastructure projects. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule.

Position Overview

As the Roadway Design Consultant, you will provide design and analysis for roadway and transportation projects from concept through permitting, plan production, and construction administration. You'll contribute to a wide range of roadway, intersection, and multimodal improvement projects while collaborating with senior staff and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design roadway geometry, corridors, intersections, and multimodal facilities using current state and federal standards.
  • Perform traffic engineering analyses, roadway modeling, pavement design, and safety evaluations.
  • Manage plan sets, specifications, and permitting processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and engineering studies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, evolving design standards, and emerging transportation technologies.
  • Assist in regional business development efforts and coordinate with clients, project partners, and agencies.
  • Support growth and development of junior engineering staff, fostering a collaborative and solution-driven team environment.

Skills and Experience

  • Technical: Proficiency in MicroStation/GEOPAK, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, or related roadway design software.
  • Experience: Minimum 20 years of roadway or transportation engineering experience, with an emphasis on roadway design, corridor studies, and plan production.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Licensure: Indiana P.E. license preferred.
  • Leadership: Proven mentoring capabilities and experience leading design teams preferred.
  • Additional: Ability to travel and work overtime as needed; excellent communication and coordination skills. Familiarity with INDOT standards, specifications, and project development processes is required. Experience working with municipal and private-sector transportation clients is preferred.

This is an hourly, as-needed position. The hourly range for this position is $50 - $70 per hour, depending on experience.
