POSITION SPECIFICS

The Morgan Academic Center is seeking a Student Athlete Adviser who is responsible for the comprehensive academic advising, academic progress tracking, development, and eligibility of student-athletes within an assigned sport; collaborates with coaches, faculty, and college academic advisers on progress towards degree completion and graduation; teaches first year courses; develops and delivers academic support or enrichment programs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide academic guidance and support to student-athletes within assigned teams in order to ensure their success and development; advise student athletes and refer to additional support services as needed

  • Assess and provide individualized academic support plans in collaboration with tutorial staff and learning services staff to address individual student goals, needs, and learning challenges

  • Partner with Athletics Compliance Office and the Registrar's office for eligibility verification and degree audit processes; coordinate and review transfer credit evaluation process for incoming and continuing student-athletes

  • Monitor and track Graduate Success Rates (GSR) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) metrics to ensure compliance with NCAA standards and institutional benchmarks

  • Implement comprehensive weekly and bi-weekly grade reporting systems to track and monitor student athletes' academic progress in all classes throughout the semester

  • Gather and analyze data on graduation, academic performance, and program success outcomes to inform decision-making and program improvements

  • Monitor continued eligibility in accordance with University, Big Ten, and NCAA regulations and policies; interpret degree, University, and NCAA requirements; apply knowledge of requirements when evaluating student progress

  • Partner and collaborate with coaches, faculty, and college academic advisers; provide updates on academic progress towards degree completion and graduation

  • Work collaboratively with tutorial staff and learning services staff to coordinate comprehensive academic support services

  • Proactively identify roadblocks to offer solutions for the challenges faced by student athletes in order to promote both academic and athletic success

  • Assist individuals in the development of career-life plans that include the exploration of career identity and career possibilities, the formulation of career development goals, and the development of skills and strategies for achieving career goals

  • Deliver academic support or enrichment programs including study hall, life skills programs, awards programs, bridge programs, and new student orientations; facilitate workshops and informational sessions; ensure all academic support services align with institutional and NCAA compliance requirements

  • Provide crisis intervention and referral services for student athletes facing academic or personal challenges

  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and families during the recruiting process; promote academic success programs and opportunities

  • Teach first year courses; develop and design curriculum and learning objectives; evaluate student performance and assign grades

  • Maintain comprehensive, confidential student records and documentation systems in full compliance with FERPA, ADA, and institutional privacy policies

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
