Senior Civil Engineer

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's growing South Portland, ME is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will work with both our Water Resources and Site/Civil Engineering teams on all aspects of site/civil engineering for public and private site and infrastructure design, including grading and drainage design, utility design, and stormwater system design, in addition to developing solutions to our clients' water resources, ecological restoration, transportation, and environmental challenges. Projects may include public and private site development and transportation improvement projects, stormwater designs, bridge hydraulics and scour, stream restorations, flood mitigation and management, and coastal resiliency.

Responsibilities

Lead integrated teams of engineers, environmental scientists, and landscape architects in developing site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude and public and private projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency.
• Lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues.
• Support tasks on multi-disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, or stormwater design focus including interaction with staff and clients.
• Prepare and review stormwater management and stream restoration design drawings and specifications.
• Prepare and/or review design criteria, drawings and specifications.
• Lead the preparation of project design plans from schematic design through construction documents.
• Perform regulatory coordination with agencies and clients and ensure preparation of permitting documents.
• Engage in business development activities and client relations.
• Prepare technical design reports.
• Lead, mentor, and train junior staff.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering (MS preferred)
• 11-15 years of professional site/civil engineering experience, including consulting/private sector experience
• PE licensure required
• New England market experience a plus
