The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are seeking an Operations Manager to join our Distributed Energy Renewables (DER) National team. In this national role, you will lead all pre-construction activities for the Western DER business, including strategic subcontractor management, direct team leadership, and alignment between pre-construction and construction teams to ensure successful project outcomes. Additional responsibilities may include:

Management

  • Lead pre-construction efforts for the Western DER business.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage the pre-construction team.
  • Foster collaboration with construction teams to ensure smooth transition from pre-construction to contracting.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with installation subcontractors across the western United States.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, leveraging multiple contracts for value and providing feedback on quality issues.

Project Controls

  • Oversee RFP and bid management, including drafting RFPs, soliciting bids, and leveling proposals.
  • Integrate technology to digitize and templatize RFP processes for improved data utilization in Procore.
  • Develop and standardize project schedule templates, ensuring accuracy and consistency across projects.

Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Act as the Western business point of contact for procurement activities.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, corporate category managers, and equipment vendors.
  • Ensure material and vendor selections meet project-specific requirements and customer expectations.

Cross-Team Alignment

  • Drive alignment between pre-construction and construction teams to prevent miscommunication and ensure contractors selected during pre-construction are awarded final contracts.

What you Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Proven experience in pre-construction or operations management within construction or related industries.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Expertise in subcontractor relationship management and procurement coordination.
  • Familiarity with RFP processes, scheduling, and technology integration.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale projects across multiple regions.
  • Knowledge of construction best practices and technology platforms.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Physical ability to navigate jobsites in uneven terrain.
  • Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office; reimbursed.

The pay range for this position is $114,210 - $192,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
