Job Summary - Manager Media Relations and Social Media

Leads and manages a team focused on earned media and social media strategy to enhance Corewell Health's image, reputation and visibility. This leader drives media engagement to support volume growth for priority service lines through strategic outreach and storytelling. This role requires a seasoned communications professional and proven leader who can navigate the complexity of the healthcare industry while inspiring high performance tied to media reach, influencer and stakeholder engagement, sentiment and conversion. As a member of the communications content ideation team, this manager contributes to integrated storytelling initiatives that reflect Corewell Health's mission, strategic priorities and brand.

Supports Sr. Director, Comms in the development and execution of local, regional and national image and reputation plans for the system. Partners with the crisis communications team on issue management and disaster situations as needed. May serve as a spokesperson for the organization.
Essential Functions - Manager Media Relations and Social Media
  • Supports Sr. Director in developing, implementing and executing local, regional and national image and reputation plans for Corewell Health. Assists with protecting the reputation of the System by positioning Corewell Health positively with all media (traditional and social).
  • Provides direction, guidance, support, mentorship and performance management to team members to ensure excellence, effectiveness and efficiency in planning & execution. Selects, trains, develops and evaluates team members and initiates personnel actions in accordance with organizational policies and dept philosophy.
  • Develops strong relationships with local, regional and national media outlets. Seeks out and builds relationships with key influencers, leveraging their strengths for the benefit of Corewell Health. Stays ahead of media and social trends, identifying opportunities to innovate and elevate Corewell Health's voice in the marketplace.
  • Guides team members to proactively collaborate with Strategy and Marketing colleagues, internal clients and executives to identify potential internal and external stories.
  • Responsible for cross-functional service line message coordination for external and internal audiences across a variety of platforms based on the objectives of specific communications and marketing plans.
  • Collaborates with other Comms Managers in the development of plans for 360-degree audience outreach based on broader Comms team objectives.
  • Measures the success of media relations and social media activities with data. Collaborates with Strategy and Marketing teams focused on industry, internal, external and stakeholder insights to inform new strategies and activities. Holds team members accountable to key performance indicators.
  • Manages timelines, schedules and budgets as appropriate for department, ensuring operations are managed within established guidelines. Support system branding initiatives.
  • Manages and supports media (traditional and social) communications during disasters or crises in collaboration with Sr. Directors leading various Comms functions, the VP of System Comms, other VPs in the Strategy and Marketing dept, as well as the Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Corewell Health Strategy and Marketing department to help achieve system goals and objectives.
Qualifications - Manager Media Relations and Social Media
  • Required Bachelor's Degree In Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, social media or related field. Required
  • Background in communications, media relations, social media or related field for a highly regulated industry such as higher education, financial, health care, health coverage, etc. Preferred
