Overview

The Quality Engineering & Quality Control Intern will support the Quality team in maintaining and improving product and process quality in a regulated manufacturing environment. This internship provides hands-on experience with quality systems, inspection activities, documentation control, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The intern will work closely with Quality Engineers, Quality Control Inspectors, Manufacturing, and Engineering to ensure products meet internal requirements and applicable industry standards.



Responsibilities

This position is designed to provide meaningful exposure to real-world quality engineering and quality control practices while developing practical problem-solving and analytical skills.

Quality Control Support

    Assist with incoming, in-process, and final inspections of materials and products per established procedures and drawings
  • Support measurement and inspection activities using basic metrology tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges)
  • Help document inspection results and ensure accurate, complete quality records
  • Support material identification, segregation, and documentation of nonconforming material

Quality Engineering Support

  • Assist Quality Engineers with investigations related to nonconformances, corrective actions, and root cause analysis
  • Support data collection and analysis for quality metrics, trends, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Help review and update quality documentation such as work instructions, inspection plans, and forms
  • Participate in process improvement projects and risk-based problem-solving activities

Quality Management System (QMS) Support

  • Assist with document control activities, including revisions, distribution, and record retention
  • Support internal audit preparation and follow-up activities as assigned
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, or similar, as applicable)
  • Maintain organized records in accordance with QMS requirements

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to support quality objectives
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement activities
  • Communicate findings, observations, and recommendations clearly and professionally

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Coursework or experience related to quality systems, statistics, or process improvement
  • Familiarity with basic inspection tools and measurement techniques
  • Exposure to quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485)
  • Experience with data analysis or basic statistical tools
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality concepts
  • Root cause analysis, CAPA, and risk-based problem-solving
  • Hands-on manufacturing floor experience
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow procedures and work in a regulated environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Education/Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

Physical Requirements

Occasionally lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 50 pounds; Adequate manual dexterity to perform duties; work in office and/or lab environment.

Compensation Range Transparency:

At Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.

Salary Range:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
