Energy Trading Analyst

Hunt Energy Network is a dynamic and innovative power trading company operating in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market. We specialize in optimizing electricity trading and generation to ensure a reliable power supply while maximizing profitability. As a leader in the energy industry, we are seeking a skilled Energy Trader to join our team and contribute to our continued success.

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Energy Trading Analyst to support our distributed thermal and battery trading operations within the ERCOT market. The role requires a deep understanding of power markets, market rules, and trading strategies. The Energy Trader plays a pivotal role in revenue maximization through Real-Time and Day-Ahead trading, portfolio management, and fuel optimization.

Responsibilities:

• Real-Time Power Trading: Identify and execute real-time revenue trading strategies across a distributed asset fleet. Develop and execute trading strategies based on market analysis and grid conditions. Monitor market prices, load forecasts, and generation output to identify trading opportunities.
• Portfolio Management: Execute daily Real-Time and Day-Ahead revenue optimization strategies and portfolio optimization.
• Fuels Management: Schedule and optimize fuels, including natural gas and diesel for the thermal generation fleet.
• Market Insight: Analyze forecasts, models, and daily real-time performance to improve the dispatch and charge of battery assets. Conduct detailed analysis of market trends, regulatory changes, and other factors impacting power markets. Use data analytics tools and models to forecast market movements and inform trading decisions. Stay up to date with regional market rules, transmission constraints, and system operator procedures.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports related to daily power trading revenues, including revenue reconciliation, variance analysis, and forecasting. Prepare and present daily market reports, including price movements, market conditions, and trading performance.
• Scenario Analysis: Create scenario analysis to assess the impact of potential market changes, regulatory shifts, and trading strategies on revenue generation.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Assets and Finance teams to communicate revenue insights effectively, facilitate alignment, and contribute to overall business strategy. Work closely with Network Services to facilitate strategic initiatives into the algorithms.
• Process Enhancement: Continuously identify opportunities to streamline revenue-related processes, improve efficiency, and implement best practices. Improve trading tools, models, and processes to enhance trading efficiency and accuracy.
• Ad hoc Projects: Data analysis and contribute to special projects, ad hoc analysis, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the company's revenue optimization efforts.

Qualifications:

• Background: A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or related field is a plus. An advanced degree or relevant certifications (CFA, CPA) are also a plus.
• ERCOT Market Knowledge: Knowledge of ERCOT market operations, regulations, and pricing dynamics is a plus.
• Data Analytics: Knowledge of data analytics tools is a plus.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data to identify trends and draw actionable insights.
• Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage large datasets while maintaining data integrity.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments.
• Problem-Solving: Proven ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and drive process improvements.
