The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Site Operations

Department Summary

We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2026 Genentech Summer Internship Program. The Site Operations department is the backbone of our facility, ensuring the seamless execution of essential functions that keep our operations running smoothly. We are responsible for maintaining and optimizing all site infrastructure; orchestrating warehouse and logistics operations; and ensuring the highest standards of operational efficiency. Our diverse team covers a wide range of critical areas, including maintenance operations, utility engineering, master data management, scheduling, warehousing, and parts inventory.

This internship position is located in Oceanside, CA, on-site.

The Opportunity

As an intern in the Site Operations department, you will perform various tasks under the guidance and mentorship of your manager with the overarching goal of leading a "Visual Management Application". The primary goal of this internship is to apply existing Lean standards (LPS) to mature critical operational areas while implementing them in new, greenfield areas. Your responsibilities will include:

  • 5S & Workplace Organization: Conduct audits and facilitate workshops to organize physical workspaces in target areas to improve safety and efficiency.

  • SQDEC Implementation: Roll out or refine SQDEC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee, Cost) tracking boards.

  • Tiered Meetings: Observe and coach teams on proper "Tiered Meeting" structures to ensure KPIs are actionable.

  • Visual Factory Creation: Design and implement visual indicators that allow the status of operations to be understood at a glance.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).

Required Majors: STEM or Business major with coursework in areas such as Biomanufacturing, Biotechnology, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related fields.

Required Skills:

  • Applicants must be age 18 or older for this opportunity.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of application.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • High attention to detail, interest in process improvement, ability to work on the shop floor with the Site Ops teams.

  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma concepts (5S, Kaizen) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Office / Google data processing suites, in particular, spreadsheets.

  • Effective time management: organizing to-do lists; setting priorities; and following through to meet goals and deadlines.

  • Familiarity with databases and CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems) such as SAP preferred.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location ofCalifornia is $45.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
