Job description:

Department: Logistics/ Shipping & Receiving

Business Unit: American Recycling Center

Location: Owosso, MI

Reports To: Brandy Copeland, Procurement & Logistics Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: Hourly

Summary: The shipping and receiving associates are responsible for safe, accurate and efficient processing of all incoming and outbound shipments, including safe loading and unloading, document management, and systematic storage of raw material and finished goods products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  1. Safe and accurate operation of forklift and other necessary equipment and machinery
  2. Knowledge of raw material, finished goods and all binders
  3. Evaluate raw material for contaminants and sort based on finished good/supplier requirements
  4. Accurately prepare outbound shipments based on BOL/picklist while maintaining quality and safety standards
  5. Verify accuracy of "ready to ship" orders against BOL and picklist items, including quantities, weights, etc.
  6. Maintain and support systematic storage, provide as backup to S&R Supervisor for inventory counts, spot counts as needed
  7. Determine labeling requirements including but not limited to preparing and affixing inventory labels, shipping labels, or private labeling
  8. General housekeeping, organization & maintenance of the dock, inventory areas, material storage buildings and inbound raw area
  9. Retain and distribute required inbound and outbound documents, including BOL, pick list, other as applicable
  10. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide
  11. Safe and proper loading and offloading of product, goods, etc. in and out of trailers, flatbeds, mobile dock, containers, including proper use of safety guards (dock plate, wheel chalking, jacks, etc.)
  12. Maintain required training and certifications, as applicable
  13. Adept in shifting focus and priorities "on the fly", based on dynamic workload demands
  14. Communicate professionally and effectively with teammates across multiple departments
  15. Look for improvement and efficiency opportunities
  16. Attendance at necessary company meetings (shipper meeting, ops. meeting)
  17. Other duties that may be assigned by Manager
