Job Description Summary:The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) seeks a creative and detail-oriented Communications and Media Associate to strengthen the NAE's social and digital presence. This role focuses on social media management, graphic design, and email/external communications, supporting outreach efforts that highlight engineering's impact on society.

The Associate contributes to developing compelling visuals, engaging content, and targeted campaigns that promote the NAE's work to key audiences. This position works closely with the Director and Specialist to execute communications initiatives that align with the NAE Strategic Communications Plan. Job Description:

The Communications/Media Associate for the NAE will work in the following areas:

Social Media Strategy and Management

  • Create and schedule content for NAE's social media accounts (LinkedIn, X, YouTube) and the President's LinkedIn account.

  • Explore additional NAE social media account i.e. Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok

  • Engage audiences through storytelling, live coverage, and multimedia content.

  • Collect and analyze social media metrics and engagement data.

  • Provide insights and reports to inform content strategy and audience targeting and identify opportunities for growth.

Graphic Design and Visual Storytelling

  • Design graphics, infographics, and layouts for digital and print materials.

  • Ensure all visual materials align with the NAE's brand guidelines and messaging.

  • Collaborate with the Specialist and Director to maintain cohesive visual identity.

Email and External Communications

  • Manage and distribute NAE's monthly e-newsletter Spotlight via Mailchimp.

  • Manage and distribute NAE's quarterly journal, The Bridge via Mailchimp.

  • Maintain distribution lists and monitor campaign analytics email engagement data.

Content Development

  • Draft and edit short-form content for web and social media.

  • Support development of promotional copy for programs, events, and publications.

  • Source and manage multimedia assets (photos, videos, graphics) for digital use, including maintaining an organized asset library.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Experience with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer) and analytics.

  • Strong writing and editing skills for digital platforms.

  • Familiarity with email marketing systems (Mailchimp, Hubspot).

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborative and proactive team player.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience: One year of related professional experience.

Compensation & Benefits:

An estimated compensation range for this position is $56,410 - $70,510. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range. This is a benefits-eligible position. Work Environment:Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment, expected onsite percentage 60%, with occasional travel between National Academies' facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.
