Description
Join the IPS Engineering Team
IPS is seeking innovative and dynamic engineers to join our team and make a significant impact by keeping our world advancing. At IPS, we innovate, inspire, and transform. Be a part of our vision of industrial sustainability through reduction of carbon footprints, greenhouse gases, and consumption of raw materials by remanufacturing, increasing energy efficiency, and recycling the critical motors and generatorsthat form the backbone of all industrial processes, infrastructure, and modern civilization.
We're looking for technically proficient and entrepreneurial problem-solvers who embrace challenges, continuously seek knowledge, and push the limits of what's possible. At IPS, you'll have the chance to work on impactful engineering projects through the entire project lifecycle, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to the future of our industry. You'll collaborate with the brightest minds, learn from experts, and grow professionally in a value-driven company. Unleash your potential with IPS and be part of something big.
Responsibilities and Expectations
As an Electrical Engineer for our Tampa Service Center, you will work independently and as part of a team during the entire project life cycle. You will learn and implement world-class engineered solutions on the shop floor for remanufacturing, reverse engineering and repair of high value industrial motors and generators where quality is the focus. This highly visible position will provide key electrical engineering decision-making for best-in-class reliability of remanufactured, uprated and new NEMA and large Above-NEMA rotating machinery.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate fast-paced engineered solutions for the remanufacturing of motors and generators that exceed customer expectations, using IPS' proven best practices and industry standards.
  • Learn to reverse engineer and evaluate all types of motor and generator three-phase and DC windings and electromagnetic designs, learn to simulate the design intent and make decisions for improved performance.
  • Provide engineering decisions for new or remanufactured machines with a better-than-OEM solution, assuring maximum reliability, manufacturability, and environmental sustainability as the engineered result.
  • In cooperation with mechanical engineers, create, review, and approve engineering drawings, connection diagrams, and test data.
  • Evaluate and approve coil insulation testing and inspection of existing windings to determine present condition, remaining life, and suitability for reliable operation.
  • Evaluate core testing and inspection results of existing stators and rotors to determine present condition and decision for replacement. Review and approve design, materials, supplier, and fabrication methods for new laminated cores.
  • Become the trusted advisor for remanufacturing work procedures, materials and testing using data-driven tracking, and use your creativity to improve fixtures & tooling, while ensuring safety is always first and foremost.
  • Learn to understand and identify failure modes for motors and generators. Over time, become SME for Root Cause Failure Analysis in collaboration with IPS' large engineering pool, and using testing, forensics, research, and structured failure analysis procedures; prepare RCFA technical reports.
  • Participate in engineering support enterprise-wide to customers, repair shops, engineering teams, and field service teams. Develop and deliver training on innovation and best practices topics within your expertise.
  • Stay current and learn new motor and generator engineering by participating in IPS and industry forums, such as workshops, trade shows and IEEE conferences, as well as pursuit of continuing education and professional development.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering; will consider Mechanical Engineers with solid electrical competency for the roles and responsibilities here.
  • 2+ years experience in three-phase AC and DC electric motor engineering. Exceptional new graduates with electric motor engineering familiarity will be considered.
  • Familiarity with electric machine remanufacturing/repair/rebuilding/rewinding, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to learn and perform RCFA and FMEA to determine failure modes, and present results to engineering experts and customers.
  • Strong communication skills with customers, excellent English required; Spanish fluency is a plus.
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.). Experience with electromagnetic motor design simulation (MotorCAD, SPEED, MotorSolve, etc.) is a definite plus.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, UL, NEMA and EPRI manufacturing, testing and repair standards.
  • This is a Tampa-based role but will have potential for up to 5% travel to support other service centers within the Southeast US region when needed.
You'll Thrive at IPS If You...
  • Lead with integrity and prioritize safety-you uphold high standards and support a safe, ethical workplace.
  • Value teamwork and accountability-you collaborate well, take ownership, serve others, and deliver on commitments.
  • Focus on the customer-you are dedicated to providing an unmatched customer experience and exceeding expectations.
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit-you are proactive, innovative, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively and with purpose-you keep others informed with clear and concise communication.
  • Stay curious and love to learn-you continuously seek new knowledge and pursue both personal and professional growth.
