Job Summary


Working under the supervision of the Department Director, the Marriage Family Therapist will support the coordination of care in the presentation of the therapeutic groups within the behavioral health department. Under Supervision, this role will also support the clinicians with the Master Treatment Plan of all behavioral health patients and ensure that the Master Treatment Plans are completed within a timely manner with signatures of each discipline within the unit The MFT will collaborate within the daily morning rounds and will assist in the discharge planning on all patients with the assistance of the department social workers. The MFT will connect with external community organizations to assist the clients with peer engagement and support.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $32.09 - $68.87 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Adult Ambulatory Psychiatric Unit at UC Saint Francis Hospital provides acute adult psychiatric inpatient care. The unit is a 24-bed unit, which is part of an acute care hospital and mainly treats patients who are a danger to themselves, others, or gravely disabled. The unit treats a diverse population and serves as a link between UCSF and community mental health efforts, providing expert consultation and collaborative clinical resources. This unit also provides intensive detoxification of clients that experience alcohol and opioid addictions.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and 1+ related work experience; and/or equivalent experience.
  • Basic skills in providing behavioral / educational interventions.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Effective verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening and persuasion skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of business software and electronic / medical records systems.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field
  • Licensed or license-eligible in California (e.g., AMFT, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, or PhD).
  • AMFT
  • 1+ related work experience
  • Prior work experience in family behavioral health interventions

License/Certification


  • Licensed or license-eligible in California (e.g., AMFT, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, or PhD) preferred.
  • AMFT preferred
