Job Summary


Involves patient care services for a range of mental health disorders, often severe including major depressive disorders, paranoia, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Settings may be inpatient, outpatient or clinical research studies. Patient care may be provided by a combination of licensed clinicians, as well as counselors and crisis intervention specialists. Patients typically require routine assistance, treatment or a specialized and controlled environment. Primary emphasis on treatment and attempt where possible to help patients control their own lives in the outside world, with the use of a combination of psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy.

Experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems / issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.

Provides individual, family, and group therapy in an outpatient day treatment program that also functions as a school. Conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, and implements evidence-based interventions to support adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed care. Uses clinical expertise to address a range of mental health concerns, exercising judgment in selecting therapeutic approaches that promote student well-being and success. Facilitates a structured, supportive environment that fosters growth, resilience, and engagement in treatment.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Master's or doctoral degree in related area.
  • Licensed in behavioral health discipline.
  • Advanced skills providing individual, group and family cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Advanced knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening, persuasion and counseling skills.
  • Advanced skills in collaborating with heath care providers in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health clinics / clinical departments.
