About the Role:

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Senior R&D Engineer to join our team! The role is instrumental in advancing our mission at Boston Scientific, leveraging cutting-edge technology and engineering expertise to make a significant impact in the medical field.

The Senior R&D Engineer will play a key leadership role in the strategy and development of novel devices designed for carotid artery revascularization procedures. The engineer will utilize data to establish performance standards, drive decisions, and develop innovative technology and processes with minimal supervision. You will work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team to plan, direct, and execute major segments of complex projects-ensuring successful outcomes from concept through commercialization.

Work Mode:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an onsite work model requiring employees to be in our Arbor Lakes, MN office at least four days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Completing complex engineering work, which may include ideation, technology development, translating customer needs, generating product requirements and design specifications, product design, test method development, product testing, report preparation, and research investigations.
  • Providing technical expertise while coordinating, managing, and documenting project goals and progress.
  • Designing and coordinating complex engineering tests and experiments and designing and preparing complex reports to communicate results to the technical community.
  • Summarizing, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from complex test results and making decisions with limited data.
  • Generating, reviewing, submitting, and maintaining engineering documentation.
  • Working cooperatively with cross-functional teams (including process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing) on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • Interfacing physicians and cath lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Providing work direction, training, and mentorship to technicians and entry-level engineers, as needed.
  • Demonstrating PDP/TPD system knowledge through the delivery of high-quality and high-impact deliverables.
  • Actively seeking to be a good teammate by helping to establish and maintain a culture of support, development, inclusion, and positivity.



Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience with a B.S. degree, minimum of 4 years' experience with an M.S. degree, or minimum of 2 year of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Accomplished engineer with catheter/sheath experience, evidence of innovative problem solving, creative thinking, and driving tasks to completion.
  • Experience in design control, risk management, and DV/DVAL execution.
  • Proven leader with good communication, ability to navigate ambiguity, and prior experience leading teams and/or workstreams.
  • Collaborative team player that works well with others and can provide technical leadership within a cross-functional team to help drive projects to completion.
  • Must work Onsite at our Arbor Lakes, MN location.



Preferred qualifications:



  • Experience in designing complex medical devices with commercialization experience through phase-gate processes.
  • Strong leadership traits include independent thinking, self-motivation, strong communication skills, comfort with calculated risk-taking, and the ability to guide team members and mentor junior engineers/technicians.
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical design expertise, preferably with single-use vascular devices and catheter development.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills, with proficiency in tools such as Minitab.
  • Experience developing test methods with hypothesis-driven experimental design.
  • Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy.
  • Prior experience with SolidWorks, Windchill, and myBuy a plus.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
