Summary
The Pharmacy Intern YR3 supports the mission of the Pharmacy Department by helping ensure patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. This role develops a comprehensive understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in medication delivery to patient care areas. Responsibilities include using pharmacy software systems and gaining hands-on experience in medication interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing. The Pharmacy Intern may also assist with the dissemination of drug information. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Participates in interdisciplinary rounds. Works collaboratively with the treatment team to optimize patient outcomes. Performs medication history interviews, first-dose teaching, food-drug interaction counseling, discharge counseling, and assessment of patient education and adherence. Creates and updates medication lists for patients at discharge or at the conclusion of clinic appointments. Counsels patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and medical devices. Monitors medication therapies by performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring medication regimens align with established guidelines and protocols.
