Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Specialist for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Advanced Endoscopy Physician Specialist is a 12-month position which includes hands-on, supervised clinical training, research, formal didactics, and conferences. Training will encompass 0.8 FTE, and 0.2 FTE will be for clinical needs for independent research, outpatient clinics or for filling in for gastroenterology consult services.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Works closely with interventional gastroenterology attendings to learn and perform interventional gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures such as but not limited to ERCP, EUS, enteral stenting, complex polyp removal, POEM, ESD, Barrett's endotherapy, etc.
  • Assesses patients for GI endoscopy procedures. Will be part of the advanced endoscopy consultation service and help formulate differential diagnosis, assessments, and plans.
  • Reviews the schedule of inpatient and outpatient cases, manages an 'add-on" schedule for urgent outpatients and emergent inpatient and ER cases, and select protocols for these cases in concert with attending gastroenterologists.
  • Helps coordinate the benign hepatopancreaticobiliary conference held once a month.
  • Participates actively in research projects. Will be expected to submit abstracts for presentation at regional meetings and compose manuscripts for publication in refereed journals.
  • Conducts conferences and assists in training others. Didactic sessions and research meetings are held at least weekly and include tumor boards, research, technology, and clinical topics.
