A Brief Overview

This Neurodiagnostic Specialist position is 36 hours a week and is a Union position. It is 3 12's- rotating nights, every third weekend and there is a holiday requirement.

This position requires Registered EEG tech and ABRET. It also requires 2 years EEG and LTM in pediatric EEG.
The Neurodiagnostic Specialist I performs all Neurodiagnostic studies such as routine EEG, Ambulatory with or without video, LTM studies to include certain functions for sEEG patients, and magno-electroencephalography studies for patients (internal or external). The technologist has demonstrated the ability to function independently in both EEG and EMU, as well as successful credentialing as an R. EEG T. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist I, tutors, demonstrates and mentors other team members and EEG students. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is responsible for training the EEG technologists/EEG externs. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist I will perform all neurophysiologic procedures involved in the operation of the inpatient EMU, including Phase 1 surface electroencephalographic studies, Phase 2 subdural and depth electrode studies, and any other studies deemed necessary by the Neurodiagnostic Manager and/or Medical Director. The Neurodiagnostic Specialist I will maintain continuing education requirements of ABRET for R. EEG T. by reviewing current literature and attending continuing education meetings and seminars.

What you will do

• Obtains the highest quality data for all Neurophysiology studies
• Recognizes physiologic and non-physiologic artifacts and eliminate and/or properly monitors. Performs activating procedures (hyperventilation and photic stimulation) as appropriate. Knowledge of medication and its effects on EEG waveforms and patterns. Reviews, evaluates, maps and classifies impressions of ictal, interictal and paroxysmal events from EEG/LTM video data.
• Equipment set up for all ICU and EEG/LTM recordings and application of scalp electrodes utilizing the international 10-20 system of electrode placement using collodion or paste adhesive. Applying additional 10-20 system electrode placements.
• Detail patient history from patient interviews/medical records and documents in patients' medical chart. Educates the patient and family regarding their EEG/LTM monitoring procedure as well as interacting on a level appropriate to the patient's age and mental capacity.
• Responsible for daily scanning, documentation and annotation of ictal, interictal and paroxysmal events for the EEG/LTM and sEEG studies. Writes interpretation and detailed description of EEG patterns, seizures, and abnormalities. Edits and archives EEG and video data of patient's studies
• Daily flexible rotating schedule/rotating working weekends.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED Required
• Technical Diploma EEG Technology program Preferred
• Associate's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• At least two (2) years EEG/LTM experience in pediatric EEG Required

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to handle difficult patients
• Possesses knowledge of medical terminology
• Possesses excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft word or equivalent word processing packages.
• Ability to be self-motivated and possess excellent organizational skill and is able to multitask
• Mechanical ability and aptitude
• Ability to work independently and under stress. Ability to make decisions in stressful situations when necessary. Critical thinking skills are necessary.
• Ability to teach in an organized effective manner.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (EEG) - American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) - upon hire - Required and
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
• Certification of Long Term Monitoring (CLTM) - American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) - upon hire - Preferred
