Inova Peterson Life with Cancer Center in Fairfax is looking for a Behavioral Health Therapist II to join the Life with Cancer team. This individual will provide individual and group support to patients and families impacted by cancer, as well as the broader oncology population. Behavioral Health Therapist 2- Job Responsibilities:

  • The Behavioral Health Therapist 2 assesses and diagnoses mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific evidenced based assessment.
  • Integrates assessments using information related to cultural, clinical, ethnic, age and other factors into the plan of care.
  • Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan.
  • Provides care management to ensure the patient and family receive and are subsequently referred to appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize treatment/intervention outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, or EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health-related field.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidence-based interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies). Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support required within 3 months of hire
    • Vistelar required within 6 Months of hire
  • License: one of the following required upon start
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC),
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT),
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW),
    • Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP),
    • Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oncology experience
