JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time, on-site position that requires the individual to support the team in their CAD/CAM design workflow within an active production environment. Our department is responsible for surveying, designing, and drafting across multiple crafts (structural, pipe, sheet metal, etc.) for various commercial and government projects.
This role is tightly integrated with field operations and production. The CAD/CAM Designer will regularly work with incomplete or evolving information and must be comfortable translating real-world conditions into constructible drawings, layouts, and reference models. Accuracy, adaptability, and clear communication are critical.
We are seeking a key team member who can support ongoing work, respond to production-driven priorities, and grow into additional responsibilities through cross-training.
Experience in all listed areas is NOT required. Candidates with strong experience in one primary area and the ability to learn others are strongly encouraged to apply.

EXPECTATIONS:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in at least one of the following is required:
    • AutoCAD
    • Solidworks
    • Point Clouds workflows (Processing, Meshing, and Reverse Engineering)
  • Support the department with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
    • Setting up projects and gathering field and design information
    • Identifying material needs and generating Excel-based material take-offs and purchasing lists
    • Organizing files, drawings, and documentation for upcoming and active projects
    • Generating work orders, and reports for production
    • Assisting with planning, coordination, and miscellaneous technical tasks as required
  • Ability to make real-time decisions with incomplete or imperfect data while balancing accuracy, schedule, and constructability
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively between designers, survey staff, supervisors, and multiple crafts
  • Ability to perform and thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, production-driven construction environment while maintaining a high degree of accuracy
  • May frequently visit active work areas that are noisy, hot, dirty, and visually obstructed, where equipment protection, personal safety, and situational awareness are critical

TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
  • Proficient knowledge of structural design concepts and related CAD software
  • Working understanding of drafting principles, techniques, and procedures related to steel and structural fabrication
  • Familiarity with interpreting field measurements, survey data, or scan data and incorporating it into CAD models or drawings
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the team

WORK STYLE & MINDEST:
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal instruction once objectives are defined
  • Able to rapidly shift priorities based on production and project needs
  • Willing to support non-design and non-survey tasks during slow periods to assist the department as a whole
  • Understands that "perfect information" is not always available and can make sound engineering and drafting decisions in real-world conditions
  • Willing to learn new tools, workflows, and processes as project demands evolve

OTHER NOTES:
  • Software training and cross-training will be provided where knowledge is limited
  • This is a project-based role, and workload may fluctuate; flexibility and adaptability are essential
