HOURLY RATE: $35.65

TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time field position that requires the individual to work in areas considered hazardous, both on land and aboard ships, during active production hours where welding, grinding, blasting, and other work are being performed, regardless of weather conditions. This role directly supports live production and installation activities where delays, errors, or misalignment can impact multiple trades simultaneously.
The Survey / Metrology Technician will be responsible for gathering data using various equipment, including total stations, 3D scanners, laser trackers, and similar tools, to support multiple crafts. Tasks range from setting modules or equipment, checking flatness and creating deviation reports, to performing general scans of areas for reference and other related work.
This position may require facilitating and directing others to accomplish the task at hand. For example, when setting a module-or even a simple piece of equipment-the entire craft, along with supporting crafts, may be standing by and waiting for your direction on placement and the precise adjustments needed to achieve the correct position. This often results in continuous work that can extend past your scheduled shift and into overtime.
The majority of the work will take place at the Portland Vigor Shipyard; however, travel is an expected part of the role and can vary in frequency. This may range from a few times per week to only a few times over several months. Most travel will be within a few hundred miles, but there may be occasions where nationwide travel is required.

EXPECTATIONS:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in at least one of the following is required:
    • Total Station (surveying)
    • 3D Scanner (point cloud capturing)
    • Laser Tracker (SA-Based workflows)
  • Ability to make real-time decisions with incomplete data and communicate risk, tolerance, and intent clearly to supervisors and crafts.
  • Ability to clearly direct multiple crafts (fitters, welders, rigging, QA) during time-critical alignment and placement operations.
  • Ability to perform and thrive under pressure in a very fast-moving Construction environment
  • Carry heavy equipment for long periods of time, including up and down flights of stairs and in and out of confined spaces / tanks.
  • Frequent work in noisy, hot, dirty, and visually obstructed environments where equipment protection, personal safety, and situational awareness are critical

PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Solidworks
  • AutoCAD
  • Spatial Analyzer
  • Point cloud workflows (registration, meshing, and processing)
  • Basic understanding of tolerances, datum's, and coordinate systems

WORK STYLE & MINDSET:
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal instruction
  • Able to shift priorities rapidly based on production needs
  • Willing to support non-survey tasks during slow periods
  • Understands that "perfect data" is not always possible in a live shipyard environment

OTHER NOTES:Cross-training will be provided for the other surveying / metrology systems and software.
