MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates must be either an MPH or an MS Epidemiology student at SUNY Albany's School of Public Health; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: proficient in MS word, PowerPoint; Familiarity with social determinants of health and their impact on community health outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Hourly Intern will be responsible to:


  • Attend trainings, conduct research, engage with partners to build an understanding of the barriers people with disabilities experience in the healthcare setting.
  • Attend trainings and conduct research to build understanding of relevant laws and regulations that intend to minimize barriers.
  • Conduct research on communication boards and other resources to support effective communication for people across disability types and collaborate with the team and relevant partners to identify key icons that should be included in communication board, develop drafts, test board with relevant partners, and complete communication board.


Participate in the coordination of activities related to developing focus group sessions including notes capture at planning meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions, develop drafts of questions for focus groups, test questions to assess utility before launching focus groups, support the manager to schedule focus group sessions, participate in data collection, lead one or more discussions, and work with the team to assess data and make a report with recommendations for needed policy, system, or environmental changes.
