DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will enhance your skills in using computers and laptops while receiving training in air conditioning service for equipment. You will need to demonstrate teamwork, reliability, and a commitment to safety. This role will also help you build strong communication skills as you learn to conduct inspections, perform repairs, and carry out preventative maintenance on various types of equipment. You will use laptops for diagnostics and work alongside certified mechanics to repair air conditioning systems. Collaboration with other mechanics, operators, and garage staff is essential for effective communication about equipment repairs. It's important to be punctual, adhere to break schedules, follow safety protocols, and wear the provided personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, you will assist Diesel Mechanics in troubleshooting issues related to chassis, driveline, engine, electrical systems, and suspension across different equipment types.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • High School Internship beginning 07/01/25 - 06/30/26.
    • Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship would be available through the 2025-2026 school year.
    • Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship would go through the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • Traditional high school and students in a vo-tech curriculum related to mechanical and/or automotive trades.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
