DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship role provides support within the Operations Section as needed, encompassing a variety of tasks related to sewage treatment and water quality management. Responsibilities include conducting inspections of Single Residence and Small Flow sewage treatment plants, as well as reviewing Annual Wasteload Management reports in accordance with Chapter 94 regulations. Additionally, the intern will evaluate annual reports linked to Industrial Stormwater and Municipal Stormwater (MS4) permits, ensuring compliance with environmental standards. The position also offers opportunities to assist in wastewater sampling and to carry out thorough surveys of water bodies, which are essential for the monitoring and assessment of the surface waters throughout the Commonwealth. This hands-on experience is invaluable for understanding the complexities of water management and environmental protection.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will last from 5/1/2025 through 8/28/2026
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a bachelor's, or advanced degree program in:
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Resource Management
    • Environmental Studies
  • An approved major course at an accredited college or university.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed by May 2026
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
