DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role offers vital support within the Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands (BWEW), focusing on various technical and analytical tasks. The position involves AutoCAD drafting and the standardization of AutoCAD workflows within the Bureau, enhancing efficiency and consistency in engineering practices. Another key responsibility is to aid in conducting geographic information system (GIS) analyses and assist with developing geodatabases by leveraging a range of resources, including databases, historical project plans, inspection reports, and archival records. Additionally, the role encompasses assisting in field investigations, which entails the collection, documentation, and analysis of state flood protection project and environmental resources to ensure compliance and safety. The individual in this position will engage in an on-the-job training program, working closely under the guidance of their supervisor and seasoned staff members. While the role includes a substantial amount of independent work, the outputs are subject to review by the supervisor to ensure quality and adherence to established standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on a schedule that aligns with the supervisor. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Enrollment in good academic standing as a FULL-TIME student in a bachelor's, or advanced degree program in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Constructions Engineering
  • An approved major course at an accredited college or university.
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Freshman year completed by May 2026
  • Pennsylvania residency or enrollment of a Pennsylvania college or university.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
