What You Can Expect Working in the Drafting Intern Position

The Drafting Intern interacts daily with Sales, Design, and Production, to generate accurate and detailed floorplans of storm shelters, components, and other industrial buildings from sketches and verbal instructions. Extended periods of time will be spent working at the CAD station and with RGDS' Design Engineer to verify drawing accuracy, new product creation, and project completeness. With instruction and guided training, the Drafting Intern will learn the process of design, have the ability to use their creative skill sets for new products, and will aid in the completion of current design plans.

Responsibilities
  • Creates various products and floor plan layouts as needed for assigned projects.
  • Willingness to gain knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences used to complete drawings.
  • Draws finished designs from initial sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Uses computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software
  • Works with Director of Sales, Design Engineer, and Manufacturing team to create and update product drawings.
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively with engineering department to ensure complete plans are accurate and complete.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Attending school with a focus on drafting and/or engineering
  • Experience in Autodesk programs (AutoCAD).
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Sedentary work.
