Summary

NYPA and the New York State Canal Corporation are committed to enhancing the New York State canal and trail system as a vibrant park and recreation space for residents and visitors from around the world. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multiple disciplines related to park and recreation space development. The intern will assist with GIS mapping, environmental science, open space design, arts programming, historical interpretation, or volunteer management, based on their skills and interests. Additional opportunities are available in water management and civil/structural engineering with our Canals engineering team. Responsibilities include aiding in accessibility planning, educational programming, and supporting events and volunteer groups. This role is ideal for someone who is seeking experience in the world of parks and recreation, as well as historical infrastructure management. Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7, 2026. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.
