Job Description

The Machinery Sales Applications Specialist at Sealed Air plays a customer-facing technical role supporting automated equipment sales, working closely with Sales, Channel Partners, and Integration Partners. Based at our Ayer, Massachusetts facility, this role blends hands-on equipment work with communication and sales skills to help customers understand how Sealed Air equipment performs in real production environments.

In this position, you will evaluate customer applications, operate packaging equipment, produce samples, host demos, and deliver formal factory quotations that support closing equipment sales. You will act as a technical expert during customer and distributor interactions, translating production needs into practical, well-documented equipment solutions.

This role is ideal for experienced service technicians, field service professionals, or industrial equipment specialists who enjoy staying close to the machinery while expanding their impact on sales and customer solutions, without extensive travel. Success requires strong mechanical aptitude, comfort in a manufacturing environment, and the ability to manage multiple technical requests in a fast-paced setting.

What you will be doing

  • Support automated equipment sales by developing application solutions that align Sealed Air equipment capabilities with customer production requirements.
  • Manage incoming RFQs by capturing all relevant technical details and preparing accurate, timely factory quotes to support closing sales.
  • Run, maintain, and adjust Shanklin shrink and other automated packaging equipment in the demo room to produce customer samples and validate proposed solutions.
  • Plan and host customer-facing and internal demonstrations, training sessions, and showroom events, both virtual and in person.
  • Act as a technical expert on customer, distributor, and internal sales calls, providing clear guidance on equipment capabilities, options, and limitations.
  • Analyze complex customer product mixes, often involving dozens of SKUs, using Excel and Office 365 tools to determine run capability and operating conditions.
  • Fulfill sample requests and manage complex technical sales inquiries using collateral such as samples, photos, and video.
  • Support and maintain showroom and demo equipment, including testing new machines or materials in partnership with other internal teams.
  • Identify and communicate equipment or design improvement opportunities based on application feedback and customer usage.
  • Capture voice of the customer and voice of the business to support process improvements and departmental best practices.
  • Maintain pricing tools, track RFQ and project activity, and produce regular reporting on workload and sales support activity.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, engineering, operations, and service teams to meet tight timelines and shifting priorities.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and actively participate in safety-related initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with industrial or automated equipment in applications engineering, technical sales support, field service, or a related role.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical experience installing, setting up, operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret layout, assembly, and fabrication drawings.
  • Proven ability to analyze customer requirements, assess application fit, and recommend appropriate equipment solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively from shop floor to senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and comfort working in Office 365 and ERP environments.
  • Experience managing technical risk, prioritizing work, and shifting focus as business needs change.
  • Comfortable working in a fabrication and assembly shop environment and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Photo and video capture or editing experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer visits, meetings, training, or trade shows, with most travel being limited and planned.
