Job Summary

The Career Services Director within the Maricopa Corporate Engagement team provides strategic leadership for the development and implementation of a centralized, systemwide career services model for Maricopa Community Colleges.

This position leads districtwide planning, coordination, and evaluation of career readiness initiatives to ensure consistent, equitable support for students across all ten colleges.

The Career Services Director collaborates with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Workforce Development, and IT/Data teams, strengthens employer partnerships, oversees career readiness programming, and manages districtwide tools and communication strategies that connect students with career opportunities.

This role is critical to advancing MCCCD's workforce mission and improving employment outcomes for students. This is a One-Year-Only (OYO) position.

Essential Functions

35% Provide strategic leadership for a centralized, systemwide career services model:
  • Direct the planning, development, and implementation of unified career readiness strategies, standards, and initiatives aligned with labor market demand and NACE competencies.

25% Lead cross-divisional collaboration to integrate career readiness across the student experience:
  • Coordinate efforts with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Workforce Development, and IT/Data teams to embed career development and Work-Based Experiences (WBEs) into programs of study and ensure consistency across all colleges.

15% Develop and manage system-level employer engagement strategies:
  • Strengthen partnerships with industry, advisory councils, chambers, and employers
  • Oversee sector-based regional events
  • Guide employer relationship management through districtwide tools.

10% Oversee districtwide student career readiness programming:
  • Ensure equitable access to high-quality career services
  • Guide the modernization of career-readiness curricula
  • Support the implementation of consistent services such as resume coaching, mock interviews, and job-readiness workshops.

10% Direct data, evaluation, and reporting efforts:
  • Lead the adoption and optimization of a Career Services Management system
  • Use labor market and outcomes data to inform strategy
  • Oversee third-party evaluation and systemwide reporting

5% Manage systemwide communications and stakeholder engagement for career services:
  • Oversee coordinated communication to students, alumni, and employers
  • Maintain shared events calendars and messaging
  • Represent the district at industry and workforce events.


Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and four years of related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • Four or more years of experience in career services, workforce development, employer engagement, or related student support functions in a higher education or large organizational setting.
  • Four or more years of experience leading cross-functional initiatives or collaborations that integrate career readiness, academic programs, and student services.
  • Four or more years of experience implementing, optimizing, or managing Career Services Management systems (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity) and using labor market or outcomes data to guide strategy.
  • Four or more years of experience developing and maintaining employer, industry, or community partnerships, including oversight of sector-based events or advisory councils.
  • Four or more years of experience designing, scaling, or modernizing career-readiness programming (e.g., coaching services, job-readiness workshops, embedded curriculum) across multiple departments, campuses, or units


Special Working Conditions

  • Positions in this class typically require the ability to perform tasks that involve: fingering, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Position may be required to work at multiple sites/locations; may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
