The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board-certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine.

Essential Job Duties
The Medical Laboratory Technologist provides essential, high-quality diagnostic services by performing routine and complex testing, including molecular diagnostic assays and bacterial identification.

Primary duties are as folllows:

  • Maintaining laboratory excellence through equipment Quality Control (QC)
  • Rigorous record-keeping
  • Successful implementation of new testing
  • Ensuring a safe, compliant operational environment via inventory management and preparation for safety inspections

Other Responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications




Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or a Biological Science; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
Preferred Qualifications


  • Clinical Laboratory Experience:Experience in a clinical lab setting, including establishing and maintaining SOPs compliant with State and Federal regulations.

  • Molecular Assay Development: Proven ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and develop new clinical PCR assays, including primer/probe design.

  • Specialized Testing: Direct experience with microbiology and/or molecular diagnostics techniques using strict aseptic technique.

  • Quality & Compliance Management: Record of managing quality control (QC), routine equipment maintenance, and preparation for laboratory inspections.

  • Team & Process Efficiency: Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, maintain excellent documentation, and work efficiently within a collaborative team structure.
