Position Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Senior Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting the safe and efficient preparation and distribution of medications for patients. This position is responsible for assisting with inventory management, regulatory documentation, and patient billing, while ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Sterile Compounding: Demonstrate proficiency in aseptic compounding of sterile IV preparations in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards, including TPN, IV drips, and chemotherapy.
Medication Procurement & Distribution: Accurately process and distribute medication orders based on physician or pharmacist requests, following established protocols and safety procedures.
Inventory Management: Maintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies, utilizing pharmacy inventory systems to ensure accuracy and availability.
Automation Oversight: Assist with the management and quality reporting of automated dispensing machines to meet regulatory requirements.
Workflow Support: Streamline pharmacy operations by routing calls appropriately and delivering patient-specific medications to departments throughout the facility.
Quality & Compliance: Participate in departmental and hospital quality assurance programs with a strong focus on patient safety and regulatory compliance.
Unit Inspections: Conduct monthly regulatory inspections of medication storage areas across all departments.
Team Contribution: Support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmacy department.
Policy Adherence: Follow all City of Hope policies, procedures, and compliance standards, maintaining confidentiality and integrity at all times.
Other Duties: Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: 2-4 years as a Pharmacy Technician; prior hospital experience preferred.
Training: Familiarity with EMR systems required.

Pharmacy computer systems and inventory control platforms.
Automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis).
Pharmacy-related technology, including TPN compounders.
