Nature of Work: This is skilled journey level work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and equipment at City facilities. Work is usually assigned in general terms, and actual work methods used to complete projects are planned and executed independently.

Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.

High school graduation or its equivalent preferred.

Two years of experience as a Journey Level Plumber.

Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid journey level plumber's license issued by the State of Nebraska or the City of Omaha at the time of application.
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the time of appointment.
Must possess a 2nd Grade Hoisting and Portable Engineer's Certificate by the end of the probationary period.

Pay Range: $60,320.00 with step increases to $93,017.16 Annually

How to Apply: Completed City of Omaha employment applications must be submitted using the online application from the City website. Examination Information: The examination will consist of a training and experience form designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. The training and experience form will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to test for the position. The form must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department by January 22, 2026 (passing score 60%). Final eligibility list will be the training and experience form weighted 100%.

Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by January 14, 2026.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques of the plumbers trade
* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the plumbing trade
* Knowledge of the contents of the City's plumbing codes
* Skill in diagnosing and effecting plumbing repairs
* Skill in the operation of the assigned tools and equipment
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and plumbing diagrams
* Ability to understand written or oral instructions
* Ability to climb, reach, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift for eight hours per day or more
* Ability to move objects weighing up to 100 pounds, 33% of the time, objects weighing 50 pounds, from 34-66% of the time; and objects weighing up to 20 pounds, from 67-100% of the time

Detailed responsibilities:
* Installs, repairs, or replaces plumbing fixtures, faucets, valves, water meters, water heaters, and drinking fountains, according to the City Plumbing Code
* Unplugs, repairs, or replaces water lines and sewer lines
* Turns on water and sprinkler systems in spring and off in the fall at parks, pools, golf courses, and at other seasonal facilities
* Repairs or replaces sprinkler heads and broken water lines
* Performs other related duties as assigned, or as the situation dictates, within the scope of this class specification
